INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MEDIATION COMPETITIONS
Australian Disputes Centre and ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition 2021
The school congratulates our LLBs Wang Yi Qin, Chua Zhen Qian, Marcus Lee Han Le and Foo Chuan He; as well alumni coaches Kimberly Sim Wei Qing and Chye Shu Li, for their outstanding performance in the Australian Disputes Centre and International Chamber of Commerce’s Asia-Pacific Commercial Mediation Competition held in October 2021.
This competition was organised by the ADC and ICC Australia to equip tomorrow’s business leaders and legal practitioners with dispute resolution skills required in a complex international commercial marketplace. This experience brought together participants worldwide, with 26 teams from more than 15 countries taking part in the competition. We are proud to announce that our team ranked 7th place overall!
Special thanks also goes out to alumnus Dhiraj Chainani and our former faculty Ms Eunice Chua, who assisted the team in their training.
In previous editions of this moot, the SMU Law team was 1st-runner-up in 2020, and reached the quarter finals in 2012.
ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition 2018, Hong Kong
The first ever Asian edition of the ICC International Mediation Competition was held in Hong Kong from 12 to 15 October 2018. Juris Doctor students Chan Wei Ling and Tay Tze Choong represented SMU in a field of 16 universities from 8 jurisdications.
They were awarded the prize for "Best Mediation Advocacy Skills". SMU alumnus Lim Shen-nen co-coached the team with Assistant Professor Eunice Chua.
ICC Mediation Competition 2018, Paris
Dhiraj G Chainani, Justin Mao Wei Zi and Nicole Leong Shi Min represented SMU in the 13th edition of this international competition featuring more than 60 teams. SMU alumnus Ms Michelle Wong coached the team.
The team received very positive feedback from the international judges in 4 preliminary rounds, and received a few nominations for awards in excellent client-counsel teamwork, best opening statement and excellent mediation plan.
