SMU Advocacy and Moot Court Club

Introduction to the SMU Advocacy & Moot Court Club (AMCC)
Formerly known as the Moot Court Club (MCC), the club was renamed the SMU Advocacy & Moot Court Club (AMCC) in 2026 to embrace broader advocacy ideals, both within and beyond the moot court setting. AMCC’s vision is to build a vibrant advocacy community that inspires students to pursue excellence with confidence and make a meaningful impact.
This expanded vision builds on SMU’s longstanding tradition of mooting excellence. SMU is home to one of the world's largest international mooting programmes, participating in over 20 moots worldwide. Since 2010, more than 600 SMU students have participated in the International Moots Programme, winning over 400 prizes and Best Memorandum Awards, including numerous world championships.
In furthering this legacy, AMCC promotes mooting culture, organises advocacy events and creates opportunities for students to engage meaningfully with the legal profession.
Internal Events
AMCC organises initiatives that foster a vibrant advocacy community and encourage students to explore the wider purpose of legal practice.
Our Purpose in Practice series, launched in AY2026/27, brings together experienced legal practitioners to share insights on building meaningful and fulfilling legal careers. The inaugural panel, The Long Game: Building a Lasting Legal Career, features Mr Wong Meng Meng SC, Founder-Consultant of WongPartnership, who shares his insights on what has motivated and sustained him through decades of legal practice.
External Events
AMCC organises local mooting competitions, including the Attorney General’s Cup and the Howard Hunter Moot, providing students with opportunities to hone their legal research, written advocacy and oral advocacy skills.
Internationally, AMCC also hosts various prestigious international competitions such as the Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Moot, which focuses on international insolvency law and international commercial litigation; the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, focusing on public international law and the law of outer space; and the International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot (IMLAM), focusing on international commercial maritime arbitration.
Through these competitions, AMCC seeks to promote advocacy excellence, facilitate exchanges among students and legal practitioners, and strengthen connections within the local and international mooting communities.
