The Bar, officially known as the SMU Law Society, is SMU Yong Pung How School of Law’s (“YPHSL”) undergraduate Law Society, dedicated to serving the student population in the School of Law. Founded in 2007, The Bar is a student-based body headed by its Management Committee, comprising the President, Vice President and Directors for each of the six (6) committees, namely - Public Relations, Events, Marketing, Finance, Professional Academic and General Secretary.

By working closely with the administration and other law clubs, the Bar endeavours to provide for law students holistically, by advancing students’ professional and academic interests while also seeking to forge a stronger sense of community among students in Law School through the organization of events and activities. These initiatives include the Mentorship Programme, Freshmen Kickstarter Sessions, Dialogue Sessions with law firms, and Welfare Drives.

The Bar also oversees the planning of YPHSL’s signature summer events which include Law Graduation Night, Law Camp (Freshman Orientation), and Law Bash (Freshman Pageant).
