The law of torts encompasses a wide and varied range of civil law wrongs and remedies. Each of the different torts continue to develop and evolve with the changing societal circumstances and adapt to address novel factual matrices. The webinar will focus on some significant Singapore court decisions on tort law in 2023. The list includes negligence, defamation, false imprisonment, deceit and conversion. It would also highlight related legal developments in selected common law jurisdictions.

SPEAKER
Professor Gary Chan has been teaching courses on Law of Torts and Health Law and Medical Ethics, amongst others. Prior to joining academia in 2002, he had served as a judicial officer, corporate lawyer and in-house legal counsel. His main research interests are Tort Law, Health Law and Ethics and Singapore Legal System and he has published numerous law textbooks, book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals relating to these research areas.
