2nd WORKS-IN-PROGRESS CONFERENCE “IPSCHOLARS ASIA": CALL FOR PAPERS

The Applied Research Centre for Intellectual Assets and the Law in Asia (ARCIALA), School of Law, Singapore Management University, invites Intellectual Property (IP) scholars to participate in the Second Works-in-Progress Conference “IPScholars Asia" that will take place at the School of Law, Singapore Management University, on 23-24 February 2017.

“IPScholars Asia” was launched in January 2016 in order to provide an annual forum for senior and junior scholars interested in IP law-related issues in Asia (including IP and Competition law, International Trade and IP, Information Technology and Internet law, etc.) to discuss their works-in-progress with colleagues from other universities.

Request to Present and Submission of Abstract

Scholars who want to present at the Second Works-in-Progress Conference “IPScholars Asia" can submit their requests at this time.

Interested scholars should email us at arciala@smu.edu.sg with the following information (please indicate “IPScholars Asia 2017” in the email subject line):

-  contact information, including academic affiliation

-  a short bio

-  a short abstract (500 words or less) as a Word or PDF attachment

We also welcome non-presenting attendees. Please email us with your request to attend without presenting at arciala@smu.edu.sg

Deadlines

The deadline to submit a request to present is 30 October 2016. After this date, applicants will be placed on a waiting list and presentation slots will be offered if available (or become available).

We will send notifications of acceptance by 30 November 2016 or shortly after this date.

The schedule of the Conference will be available by 20 January 2017.

There is no paper publication requirement to participate in the Conference. However, participants are encouraged (but not obliged) to submit a paper draft, which will be distributed in soft-copies (PDF) at the Conference.

Conference Schedule (subject to possible minor changes)

The Conference will start on Thursday 23 February 2017 at 9 a.m. and continue until 6.30 p.m. A casual dinner will follow at the end of the first day.

The Conference will resume on Friday 24 February 2017 at 9 a.m. and continue until 6.30 p.m. The Conference will conclude with a casual farewell dinner at the end of the second day.

Time allotted to each presentation will depend on the final number of presenters. We encourage participants to reserve a considerable amount of their allotted time for questions and comments.

We will have two or more key note speakers during the conference.

We would like to encourage all participants—presenters and attendees—to attend the whole Conference in order to offer to all presenters the same opportunity for feedback.

Funding for the Conference and Travel Arrangements

There will be no registration fee or other costs associated with attending the Conference. ARCIALA will also provide complimentary refreshments, lunch, and dinner during the two days of the Conference.

However, conference presenters and attendees must cover their own travel-related and accommodations expenses. They will also be responsible for obtaining and covering the costs related to their travel visa and any other necessary travel documents.

ARCIALA has reserved a block of rooms in two hotels near to the School of Law that offer a preferred rate. For relevant information about hotels click here.

We also encourage participants to check for affordable hotel rates and other discounted travel arrangements online.

Financial Assistance for Scholars in Financial Need

We are currently trying to secure funds to partially assist a limited number of scholars in financial need to attend the Conference. Scholars from developing countries whose papers have been accepted to be presented at the Conference and who cannot otherwise secure financial support to attend the Conference can contact us at arciala@smu.edu.sg and submit a request for partial sponsorship by 30 November 2016. Each request will be considered individually based on the availability of funds.

WIPO-WTO COLLOQUIUM FOR IP TEACHERS AND RESEARCHERS IN ASIA   NEW!
