SIDRA Executive Certificate in Mediation
OVERVIEW
The Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy (SIDRA) is a platform for thought leadership in international dispute resolution theory, practice and policy. A research centre at the Singapore Management University School of Law, SIDRA leads the way through projects, publications and events that promote dynamic and inclusive conversations on how to constructively engage with and resolve differences and disputes at global, regional and national levels. In particular, SIDRA differentiates itself through its focus on applied research that has practical impact on industry.
3 COMPONENTS UNDER THE ECIM
Component 1: Cross Border Mediation: Professional Skills and Practice (LAW643) The first component is a 30-hour course conducted by Prof Nadja Alexander at SMU Yong Pung How School of Law. The mode of instruction is blended.Alternatively, candidates can enrol for another course, Professional Mediation Skills (LAW478), a 36 hour course, also taught by Prof Nadja Alexander.
Component 2: SMU International Mediator Accreditation Workshop Participants who successfully pass the first component (or participants who have already attended 26 hours of training through another SIMI Registered Training Program) are eligible to attend this hands-on workshop conducted by experienced trainers. Participants will hone their mediation skills through intensive and rigorous mediation role-plays with the help of coaches who will provide personalised guidance and feedback. Participants will sit for a practical and written assessment on the last day. Participants who pass the assessment will be accredited as Level 1 Mediators with the Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI) upon fulfilling the requisite criteria set by SIMI.
Component 3: Dispute Resolution Advocacy (LAW4018) The third component is a 36-hour hands-on course conducted by full-time and adjunct faculty at SMU Yong Pung How School of Law. This course is designed to equip candidates to become successful advocates in dispute resolution settings including mediations. Participants who successfully pass the requisite assessment will be eligible to become accredited as a Mediation Advocate with the International Mediation Institute (IMI) upon fulfilling the requisite criteria set by IMI.
