| | SYNOPSISRegardless of any industry, business development and networking are cornerstones for revenue strategies. As lawyers, growing the firm’s business becomes part of the portfolio and requires more than legal skills to attain business objectives. This module aims to strengthen the soft skills in business development, communicating and maintaining client relationships in the legal sector. Participants will also learn to incorporate it with their legal skills to achieve an all-rounded representation of the firm. This module is part of the Professional Certificate in Legal Practice of the Future. It is also available on a standalone basis.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the end of the 1-day module, participants will be able to: - Understand how to enhance and integrate the more qualitative “soft” skills that lawyers require with the technical “hard” legal skills in order to manifest financial results for the law firm
- Enhance their communications with clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, etc.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND - Senior Associates with 3-4 years of experience
- Junior Partners with 5 years’ experience and above
PREREQUISITE Participants should have at least 3 years of experience in a legal services firm in a legal services firm.
ASSESSMENT
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises. Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.
SPEAKERCarina, a Paris Bar Foreign lawyer, arrived in Singapore in 2011 and quickly rose at Luther LLP, establishing a French Desk. Despite new challenges, she mastered business development, client pitching, and team management. Becoming Senior Associate in 2013 and Partner in under 5 years, she also trained as a Coach and Mediator, leading to a 1,500% increase in French Desk turnover. Carina served as a Board Director at the Belgium Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and attained Professional Certified Coach status. She collaborates with key stakeholders like FCCS and SAL, mentors in legal hackathons, judges mediation competitions, and conducts corporate training since 2016 in Profiling, Communication, Business Development, and Leadership.
