With the rise of the digital economy, policy makers and tax authorities all over the globe have to rethink some of the fundamental principles of taxation in order to address the tax challenges raised by the digitalization of the economy. The Covid-19 pandemic has also accelerated the growth of digital businesses, exacerbating these tax challenges.
This Primer Seminar series will aim to provide legal practitioners with a solid and practical grasp of the tax fundamentals necessary for success in the digital economy. Taught by leading tax practitioners, the series will include real time case studies addressing both the domestic and international perspectives.
The series will cover the following topics:
- Basic understanding of the tax concepts that form the fundamental principles of taxation of the traditional economy;
- Explanation why these concepts cannot (always) be equally applied to the digital economy;
- Solutions that have been proposed/designed at a domestic, regional and global level;
- What to be expected in the next 12 months, 3 and 5 years;
- Why and how this is relevant for your practice.
