The first iterations of Generative AI applications such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude and Microsoft’s Bing Chat showcased their remarkable proficiency in generating natural, fluent text in response to user inputs on a diverse range of topics, matching human-level performance on a number of benchmarks. The 2024 versions of these tools mark a significant enhancement in their capacity to process more data, alongside improvements in their reliability of output generations. Further, with the release of open-weight models like Meta’s Llama introduces the possibility of employing these models on-premises for processing sensitive information, offering a new level of flexibility and security for users.
In this class, the speaker will introduce participants to the fundamental concepts behind these large language models (LLMs); what makes them work so well; the risks and challenges associated with their use (both legal and technical); and explore how they can be used as to enhance legal technologies. Participants will be introduced to best prompting approaches to obtain better responses, no-code tools that allow users to build sophisticated AI-powered products, and gain hands-on practice* to determine the effectiveness, reliability, and safety of Generative AI-powered applications for their intended use cases.
*Participants should bring a laptop to gain the most out of the hands-on practice session.
