SYNOPSIS
The law relating to commercial remedies is of prime relevance to legal professionals in a wide variety of practice areas.
This Masterclass, taught by leading experts in commercial law, will present an in-depth analysis of various commercial remedies in Singapore, such as contractual, tortious, equitable and other remedies, as well as a study of recent developments in this area of law. It will also cover relevant material from other jurisdictions.
The Masterclass will include practical and interactive case studies to facilitate learning, and will ultimately aim to provide legal practitioners with practical and useful insights on the latest developments in commercial remedies in Singapore to equip legal professionals for success in commercial practice.
SPEAKERS
Goh Yihan
Professor Goh's research focuses primarily on the law of contract and torts, with a secondary interest in the principles of statutory interpretation and the legal process. He has published numerous books, chapters and journal articles internationally and in Singapore, which have been cited on multiple occasions by the Singapore courts and the Federal Court of Malaysia. He has been appointed amicus curiae before the Singapore Court of Appeal and the Singapore High Court. In recognition of his invaluable contributions to the development and advancement of Singapore law, he became the youngest recipient of the pentennial Singapore Academy of Law Singapore Law Merit Award in 2013. In January 2021, Professor Goh was appointed Senior Counsel. He obtained his LL.B. (First Class Honours) from the National University of Singapore on a University Undergraduate Scholarship, where he graduated as the top student in 2006. He subsequently obtained a LL.M. from Harvard University in 2010 on a NUS University Overseas Graduate Scholarship.
Yip Man
Associate Professor Yip Man formerly practiced as a disputes lawyer. She is currently the Director of the Centre for Commercial Law in Asia, SMU. Her research interests are in private law, private international law and international commercial courts. Her work has been cited in leading treatises, as well as by the Singapore Court of Appeal, Singapore High Court and the High Court of England and Wales.

Registration fee of S$535* (inclusive of GST) applies.
*Please note that there will be no refund of any fees should the participant cancel the registration/ fail to attend the event. However, registration is transferable. Notice of any change in participant should be sent to the Academy via email: smulawacademy [at] smu.edu.sg, by 1 December 2021.
SMU Law Academy reserves the right to cancel or postpone any event. In such case, we will arrange for the refund of fees paid.
