Divorces often raise complex financial issues, arising from either disparity of access to the financial information required to arrive at a fair division of assets or from the need to value those assets and the parties’ future financial needs.
The first part of this seminar will look at how lawyers and financial experts can assist their clients by verifying the completeness of asset and lifestyle disclosures and the second part addresses the more complex issues surrounding the valuation of assets and approaches available to calculating a lump sum amount in lieu of periodic maintenance.
The speakers will discuss the options available and share their experience tackling these issues.
Part 1: Assets and Lifestyle Basics
a) Parties’ entitlements
b) Disclosure obligations and procedures
c) Uncovering concealed assets
Part 2: Advanced Quantum Issues
d) Importance and relevance of expert valuation of
business interests
e) Lump sum settlements for future requirements
