LAW643 Cross-Border Mediation: Professional Skills and Practice (Part A)

 

SMU Law Academy ("SMULA") is proud to collaborate with the Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy (“SIDRA”) to deliver training that will allow participants to become an accredited mediator with the Singapore International Mediation Institute (“SIMI”).

 

Specifically, participants who successfully complete:

(i) the SMU Cross-Border Mediation course (“Part A”); and 
 
(ii) the SMU International Mediator Accreditation Workshop (“Part B”) 

are eligible to apply for accreditation as a mediator with SIMI after passing the requisite assessment.

In Part A, you will develop mediation skills as you engage with a range of dispute scenarios. You will gain knowledge in areas such as the nature of conflict, communication patterns in conflict and negotiation, preparing for mediation, negotiation dynamics in mediation, principles and stages of the mediation process, cultural fluency in mediation, mediator ethics and the law of mediation. In 2024, dates for Part A are set out in the Course Schedule below.

After successfully completing Part A, participants who go on to attend Part B and pass the requisite assessment can apply for accreditation as a mediator with SIMI.  The dates of the next run of Part B will be finalised in due course.

For completeness, after participants successfully complete SMU’s Part A and Part B courses, participants who also successfully complete SMU’s course on Dispute Resolution Advocacy (LAW4018) are eligible to:
 

(i) apply for further accreditation as a Mediation Advocate upon fulfilling the requisite criteria set by the International Mediation Institute (“IMI”); and
 
(ii) obtain an Executive Certificate in Mediation by SIDRA.

The registration fees for this course is $$1,744* (including GST).

Fee above does not include those payable to third parties such as SIMI and IMI for the purposes of obtaining any accreditation. 

As spaces are highly limited for this run, please note that registration does not connote successful enrolment. Confirmed participants will be notified by email. For any queries, please contact SMULA.

*Please note that there will be no refund of any fees should the participant cancel the registration/ fail to attend the event. SMU Law Academy reserves the right to cancel or postpone any event. In such case, we will arrange for the refund of fees paid.

Participants who wish to obtain CPD Points must comply strictly with the Attendance Policy set out in the CPD Guidelines. For this activity, participants are reminded to sign in on arrival and sign out at the conclusion of each day of the event in the manner required by the organiser. Participants must not be absent from each day of the event for more than 15 minutes. Participants who attend and comply strictly with the Attendance Policy on that day may obtain 4.5 Public CPD Points. Participants who do not comply with the Attendance Policy on any particular day of the event will not be able to obtain CPD Points for that day.
