SYNOPSIS


Disruptive technology has had a profound impact across many industries and spawned many innovative business models such as the sharing economy, cloud computing and blockchain distributed ledgers. These developments have in turn influenced international taxation. 


This course aims at providing an overview of the main concepts and considerations in international taxation in the rapidly evolving area of digital economy. It aims to combine both academic rigour and industry experience to bring the subject to life and provide a practical overview. 


Day 1 (21 June) surveys state-of-the-art concepts and issues in Digital Economy taxation. 


  • Pre-BEPS – Implications of E-commerce, remote servers 
  • The OECD Base Erosion and Profit Shifting Project (BEPS) and the new norms 
  • Destination principle
  • Digital levy
  • Latest developments from EU and OECD
  • Modified PE

Day 2 (28 June)


  • Key rules in Singapore such as Income Tax Guide on E-Commerce (2015), GST: Guide for E-Commerce.  
  • Case studies which may cover two or more of the following
    • Cloud
    • Remote selling of goods or services, including streaming videos
    • Sharing economy
    • Digital marketplace

SILE ATTENDANCE POLICY


Participants who wish to obtain CPD Points must comply strictly with the Attendance Policy set out in the CPD Guidelines. Participants must not be absent from each day of the event for more than 15 minutes. Participants may obtain 3 Public CPD Points for each day of the event on which they comply strictly with the Attendance Policy. Participants who do not comply with the Attendance Policy on any particular day of the event will not be able to obtain CPD Points for that day.
