Henry Gao is Professor of Law at Singapore Management University. With law degrees from three continents, he started his career as the first Chinese lawyer at the WTO Secretariat. He has been an advisor on trade issues for many national governments as well as the WTO, UN, World Bank, ADB, APEC, ASEAN and the World Economic Forum. A frequent commentator in leading international media such as Financial Times, Economist, Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Washington Post, he has also testified before the European Parliament and the US International Trade Commission as an expert witness. Widely published on China and WTO and digital trade issues, he sits on the Advisory Board of the WTO Chairs Program and the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law, as well as the editorial boards of the American Journal of International Law and Journal of International Economic Law. His recent books include Between Market Economy and State Capitalism: China’s State-Owned Enterprises and the World Trading System and China and the WTO: A Twenty-Year Assessment, both published by Cambridge University Press.
