QMUL/SMU/SIAC Arbitration Colloquium on "Managing the International Arbitration Process"

Synopsis

International arbitration proceedings have become increasingly complicated, in particular those involving multiple parties, parallel proceedings or multi-tiered arbitration clauses.  In those cases, it is of fundamental importance that the arbitral tribunal manages the arbitration process fairly and efficiently.

This inaugural colloquium, co-organised by two universities with a reputation for research excellence in commercial law, and a respected neutral arbitral institution, features experienced arbitration practitioners and arbitrators from different jurisdictions.

The first panel will analyse commonwealth, continental and investment treaty jurisprudence and practice on the enforcement of multi-tiered arbitration clauses, whereas the second panel will debate whether the tribunal or the parties are better-placed to “fix” the process, i.e. make it more speedy and cost-efficient.
