Workshops by Professor Liz Fisher- (1) Crafting and Writing Legal Scholarship and (2) Getting Published SYNOPSIS
Lee Kong Chian Visiting Professor Liz Fisher (Faculty of Law, University of Oxford; General Editor, Oxford Journal of Legal Studies) will be running two workshops on 1) Crafting and Writing Legal Scholarship; and 2) Getting Published. All YPHSL faculty and doctoral students are invited to attend. While the workshops have been designed to build on each other, colleagues are welcome to participate as their schedule allows.
Workshop 1: Crafting and Writing Legal Scholarship Legal scholarship is inherently diverse – but while legal scholars produce different types of publications using different scholarly methods – at core they are all carrying out a craft. Scholarship is about producing a publication to illuminate readers that is driven by a commitment to do scholarship well. This participatory workshop builds on a forthcoming book with Sanja Bogojević: The Craft of Legal Scholarship (OUP). In it we will explore the first stages of crafting of a scholarly project and the process of scholarly writing. Workshop 2: Getting Published This workshop explores the processes of getting an academic work published – from thinking about where to publish, submitting a manuscript, dealing with revision and rejection, and crafting the final scholarly product. Liz Fisher is General Editor of the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies and has long standing editorial experience across a range of publication outlets.
