Entry Requirements

Good first degree in Law (LL.B. or J.D. or their equivalent).

Significant relevant experience in legal or judicial positions is required. 

Good first degree in Law (LL.B. or J.D. or their equivalent) or,

Non-law graduates would be considered on the basis of substantial professional experience.

English Language Proficiency

Proof of English language proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS) is required for all international applicants except those from English-medium institutions in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand, Philippines, United Kingdom and the United States.

The minimum English proficiency test requirement is as follows:

  • IELTS (Academic): Overall Band of 6.5
  • TOEFL (Paper Based Test or Internet Based Test): 90
  • UKVI: 4
  1. Test scores are valid for two (2) years from the test date and applicants should ensure their scores remain valid at the beginning of the application period of for the LL.M. track applied for.
  2. Apart from the above tests, others such as TOEFL Institutional Testing Program (ITP), TOEFL MyBest Scores and Duolingo English Test are not accepted.
  3. For the English proficiency test requirements of the Dual LLM in Commercial Law programme, please refer to QMUL's website directly.
  4. Applicants intending to take the proficiency test are advised to schedule their test sufficiently early to ensure that their score reports are available before the closing date for the submission of supporting documents. Only official score reports are accepted. 
  5. For whom have a master degree in English and a bachelor degree in other language, applicants could apply for exemption from the English Proficiency Test, but the exemption will depend on the submitted online application and supporting documents. Programme office will not process exemption requests until the online application and supporting documents are submitted. The exemption result will be replied via email.
