lndonesian Corporate Law and Governance: Expert Analysis on Timely Issues
SYNOPSIS
Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country, with the world’s eighth largest economy, which is experiencing robust growth. Singapore is the world’s largest foreign direct investor in Indonesia and serves as an important hub for providing Indonesian companies with corporate financing and legal services.
This seminar will provide a brief overview of the latest corporate law developments in Indonesia, highlighting issues of particular interest to Singapore lawyers and market players in the region. The seminar will then provide in-depth analyses on two cutting-edge issues in Indonesian corporate law and governance: (1) the abolition of independent directors on the boards of listed companies in Indonesia and the implications of this idiosyncratic development on Indonesian corporate governance; and (2) the unique corporate governance issues facing startups in Indonesia, with a focus on Singapore as the hub and standard-bearer of start-up governance in South East Asia.
For each of these issues, leading academics will provide a concise overview of their forthcoming research based on fresh empirical and case study evidence. The insights based on academic research will be complimented by input from leading lawyers with expertise on Indonesia who will explain and evaluate the applicability of this academic research in practice.
